What's in YOUR CD Player?
Music has always been important to me. Since I was a little girl I have always been influenced by music. My great-grandfather on my mother's side was a Minister of Music at First Baptist of Gastonia way back in the day. My Nanny played the piano for the same church, sang in the choir at the same church and also played clarinet. My mother plays piano as well. My Nanny instilled a love of music in me from a very young age.
I remember going to choir practice with her on Wednesday nights and singing right along with all the adults. I still love to sing, but I don't do it in front of people anymore. If I could be an actor or a singer, I would totally be a singer. Always wanted to do it, but I don't have the guts (or the looks). Nanny also bought me a trumpet during the summer before 5th grade (Band started in 5th grade in Ohio). By the time school started, I could already read music and I knew all the notes on my instrument.
Because of my upbrining, I have always had an ecclectic taste in music. I have everything from classical to rock to metal to jazz in my CD collection. Right now if I have any extra money, I hit the CD shelves at the local Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. There is also an awesome used CD store here in town that I frequent as well. I really need to make a list of CD's I want and go on a mission to Woody's to find them.
I was just putting together a mix CD for my friend K, who is serving a tour in Kuwait. He has been sick and lonely and I thought I would include a CD with some songs that reminded him of home (amd me :) ) One of the CD's that we listened to as nauseum was Rage Against the Machine. Bulls On Parade was a huge hit at the time. Rage also got me through some pretty rough times in my college years while I was going through an angry stage. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a Rage Against the Machine CD at Target in the Bargin Bin. Whoooo Wee! My old copy had gotten destroyed and I was really wanted to listen to some political metal-rock! I just can't listen to it with the kids in the car.

I am all about Wilco and The Weepies. They're mostly all I listen to anymore.
