Do You Know What Your Kids Are Playing?
Right now, as I type this I am sitting at the Colorado Springs Airport after spending several days at a law enforcement conference. One of the presenters was a commander of the police department in Columbine Colorado. One the the things he discussed is the fact that Harris and Klebold used the video game Doom to practice the events of that fateful day at Columbine High School.
My kids are too young to play video games. There are a lot of parents out there that allow their pre-schoolers to play video games and computer games. I am not one of them. I realize that they could probably learn alot, but I am trying to keep them from that part of the world for as long as I can. Call me a little old fashioned anyway.
Those of you that do have kids that play video games (be it the internet, portable devices, home entertainment systems, etc) please make sure that you know what they are playing. You have a right as parents to filter what comes into your home. The ESRB (Electronic Software Rating Board) is an excellent resource for parents and other child care givers to get step by step guidelines for setting the parental controls on electronic video game devices. You might also want to check out esrb.org for check on the ratings of the childs favorite games as well as get valuable resource information.
It never hurts to be informed in the things that your children do. It could very well be the difference between life and death.

Newbie visiting from Chick.
It seems that there are always new dangers and more warnings with every passing day. Like you say, can't be too careful or too informed.
Cheers
