About Me

Name: Elleoz

From: Fort Mill, South Carolina, United States

I am 32 years old and have been married for 6 years. I had two children under 2 (hence the blog name), but now they are actually 3 and 2. Maybe it is time to change the blog name? Drama Queen is 3 and Wildman is 2 (15 months apart to be exact). I have a Bachelor's Degree on Criminal Justice from Applachian State University (Go Apps!) and have been at my current place of employment for going on 7 years.

    Internet Predators
As most of you know, I work for a local police department. Before starting in my current position, I worked in the Community Services Division where our main focus was children. Many times we were asked for information on how to protect children from online predators. And this was before the invention of sites such as www.myspace.com . Prior to having children, I felt that the internet was a dangerous thing, but now that I have my own it terrifies me.

We will not be allowing our children to be on the internet in their own rooms. We have a computer in the kitchen where we can see what they are doing. However, I am not naive and know that I can't see everything and everyone that they are talking to. That's why I think that the program that www.spectorsoft.com has developed is such a great tool to have as a parent. The software allows you to monitor everywhere on the internet that your child has gone. This includes IM's, myspace.com accounts and searches to Google too. Now parents have the ability to help protect thier children from those sick people who pray on innocent children.

This is does not mean that parents need to not educate their children of the dangers that lurk out there in the cyber world. It is our responsibility to monitor what they are doing and talk to them (as hard as it is) about what can and can't be discussed and revealed to "strangers" on the internet. However, the spectorsoft software is a great aid. At $100 it is a little pricey for me, but my childrens safety is worth much more than that.

I feel the same way. I found a great site that the school resource officer told us about that has free classes in some of the different states for parents to educate themselves and then their children about the dangers of the internet. Ithink it was yourchildandtheinternet.com or theinternetandyourchild.com

I am sure your work could tell you since I am having abrain fart at the moment.

Oh, and I jsut wanted to let you know in case you forgot or didn't know, PPP requires that there be a public personal post with a least 50 words that is not sponsered with them between each sponsered post. :D They will reject it back to you, but you can fix it and resubmit it.
